One of the best things about cheerleading – aside from everything – is that you can join the sport at any age! For some it’s a dream come true! But others are scared that it’s too late to do great. We’re here to calm your nerves and get you pumped for your very first class! Here is what you can expect when you’re new to cheer at any age.

Ages 6 months to 3 years old:

This precious age is all about discovery! Cheer Sport Sharks offer a gentle introduction to the very roots of cheerleading in a stress-free, structure-free drop-in program. Guardians should expect to have fun their little ones while exploring movement and socialization, which are two of our favourite parts of cheer!

Ages 3 through 5 years old:

These tiny new athletes spend their time on the blue mat learning how their bodies can bend, jump, roll, balance, and dance in a joyful atmosphere. It’s an exciting atmosphere for preschoolers and primary students to learn about Cheerleading Age Does Not Matter FBpractice, focus, and teamwork.

Ages 8 through 12 years old:

What a time to be alive! Athletes at this age are known to learn quickly, and bravely try new things. Cheer is so ready for them! Expect to see rapid mastery in stunting, tumbling, jumps, and choreography with exceptional support every backflip of the way. Many cheer athletes at this age of all levels take additional classes to perfect new skills and improve strength, so even if you’re just starting out, new Shark members tend to fit right in!

13 through 17-year-olds:

Young adults starting cheer tend to aim for a competitive team placement and are often transitioning from another sport, like dance or gymnastics. But don’t shy away if you have zero athletic experience! Expect to work hard at least a few times a week to nail the basics of cheer as your body and mind get used to your new movements, strategies, and strength!

18 years and older:

It’s never too late to try cheer! Whether you’re already a seasoned athlete in another sport or just ready to find out why cheerleaders genuinely smile throughout a routine, expect to work hard and have a JAWesome time! Get ready to be awed at the strength and artistry of your body and mind. The key to success when starting cheer as an adult is to let go of fear and doubts. Trust your coach, because they’re teaching proper technique according to extraordinary safety standards, and they really do see you. And always listen to your body.
